Who needs a license

Everyone. Twice, if they build the schedule.

On Microsoft, the crew needs Microsoft 365 just to see their tasks, and whoever builds the schedule needs Planner Plan 1 for the Gantt chart. On Parli, you pay for the office, and the field is free. Count your people and both bills update.

"Microsoft Planner" here means all of Microsoft's Planner and Project plans together, including the Project desktop apps. A check means at least one of them has it, and the note says which. Away from the desk

Microsoft plans the project. The crew still has a day to get through.

Planner and Project are built for people at a computer. A dirt crew is out on the job with a phone, clocking in, taking photos and running the machines. That part of the day is in Parli too.

Which one you want

An office project tool, or the crew's whole day.

Microsoft's project tools are strong, and if your company already runs on Microsoft 365, Planner is right there.

Microsoft Planner fits you if

  • Your company already pays for Microsoft 365 and Teams
  • Project managers plan big projects at a desk
  • You need baselines, critical path or portfolios
  • You trade .mpp files with owners or engineers

Parli fits you if

  • You move dirt: excavation, grading, site work, utilities
  • Most of your people are in the field with a phone, not at a PC
  • The schedule, the hours, the photos and the machines belong in one app
  • You want one price for the company, not a license for each person

Questions

Common questions

What happened to Microsoft Project?

It's been folded into Microsoft Planner. Project Plan 1 became Planner Plan 1 in April 2024; Project Plan 3 and Plan 5 became Planner and Project Plan 3 and Plan 5 on September 18, 2024. Project for the web was retired in August 2025, and its projects now open in Planner as premium plans. Project Online was retired on September 30, 2026. The Project desktop apps for Windows are still sold: Project Standard 2024 at $679.99 and Project Professional 2024 at $1,129.99, each a one-time purchase for one person on one PC.

How much does Microsoft Planner cost?

Planner comes with Microsoft 365 business plans, which start at $7 a person a month (Business Basic, paid yearly). The Gantt chart (Microsoft calls it the Timeline view), linked tasks and milestones need Planner Plan 1, $10 a person a month. Baselines, critical path and the Project desktop app need Planner and Project Plan 3, $30 a person a month. Copilot is $30 a person a month on top. Those are Microsoft's prices on November 1, 2026, paid yearly.

What is Planner Premium?

It's what people call Planner with a paid license. Microsoft's own words are "premium plans": the plans that used to live in Project for the web. Opening one takes Planner Plan 1, Planner and Project Plan 3 or Planner and Project Plan 5. Anyone with Microsoft 365 can view a premium plan and check off their tasks, but the Timeline, People and Goals views need a paid license.

Is Microsoft Planner free?

Not on its own. It comes with a paid Microsoft 365 plan, from $7 a person a month, and the paid Planner plans have a one-month free trial that needs a card. Parli has a free plan with no time limit and no card.

Is there a free alternative to Microsoft Planner and Project?

Yes. Parli's Free plan has the schedule, tasks, jobsite photos and daily field reports for one job, one person in the office and one in the field, with no card and no time limit. Paid plans start at $49 a month, with the Gantt chart, the time clock, video calls, and every crew login free.

Does Microsoft Planner have a time clock?

No. None of Planner's plans list a time clock. Project Professional 2024 has timesheets, where people type in their time against tasks on a Windows PC. Parli's time clock is one tap on the phone at the job, even with no signal, and the foreman can clock in the whole crew.

What would the same crew pay on Parli?

Two people who build the schedule and eighteen in the field, on up to five jobs at once, is $49 a month on Small Business+. On Microsoft, the same twenty people with Planner Plan 1 for the two and Microsoft 365 Business Basic for the eighteen is $146 a month, paid yearly, and that still has no time clock.

What does Microsoft do that Parli doesn’t?

Baselines, critical path, portfolios across many plans, .mpp files from Project desktop, and Power Automate workflows. If your company plans large projects at a desk and already lives in Microsoft 365, those matter. Parli is built for dirt crews: the schedule, the hours, the machines and the photos, on the phone the crew already carries.

Put the whole crew on the schedule.

Start free on a real job and build tomorrow's schedule today. When you move up, the Gantt chart comes with it, and every crew login is free. No card to start.
